Jacqueline Souroujon Henderson
Originally from Mexico City, Jacqueline landed in Chicago 27 years ago to attend graduate school at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied Arts Administration. Chicago is where she fell in love and soon after fell in love with the city's vibrant, local art scene. She’s never looked back! Her ease with language has led her to follow her passion for art around the world, working in London and Paris. She is fluent in French, Spanish, Italian and can defend herself in Russian and German. She spent two years completing courses at Sotheby’s in London. It was during this time working and studying in London that she was snatched up by a Paris dealer to curate exhibitions throughout France and Switzerland. During that time she also embraced her love of Russian culture spending two summers exploring its hidden treasures.
As director of Art Chicago she developed a knack for navigating the international art world, learning to help people develop and hone their interest in art, whether as serious collectors or simply as novices who just want to be surrounded by beautiful objects. Inspired by her husband Henry L. Henderson’s leadership of NRDC in Chicago and his interest in partnering with artists actively engaged with the environment, she has developed a keen interest in environmental art and artists. Through her years working in the art world in both the for profit and non-profit sectors she has developed close relationships with artists in Chicago and abroad.
Outside of work Jacqueline will be found hanging out with her handsome teenage sons, James and Ben, planning exotic vacations, playing tennis or piano and enjoying long, icy walks along her beloved Evanston lakefront.
